Your 2025 Venue | Nelson Mandela Bay

Set in the spectacular Nelson Mandela Bay, one of eight metropolitan municipalities in South Africa. It is located on the shores of Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape Province and comprises the city of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) and Despatch.

The region offers an exciting holiday destination that features beautiful beaches and a wide range of nature and wildlife attractions, the city plays host to the African Ironman Championships each year.

Port Elizabeth’s pristine beaches are legendary, three of which boast full Blue Flag status. Wide expanses of golden sands and warm water are ideal for safe sheltered swimming, other water sport and beach leisure activities.

The sea conditions are generally calm in the Bay, except when the South-easterly wind is blowing.

The weather complements the breath-taking beaches where in summer the water temperature ranges from 18 to 21 degrees Celsius and in winter between 14 to 19 degrees Celsius, allowing ideal opportunities for water sport events.

The Addo Elephant National Park is just 65km from the City and the only Park in the world to be home & habitat to the BIG 7. The Park offers the largest density of African Elephants on the planet, Cape buffalo, leopard, black rhino, lions & great white shark and seasonal southern right whales in the marine section.

Apart from the National Park the city is within easy reach of a multitude of luxurious Private Game Reserves that also offer Big 5 viewing.

Nearest Airport

Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (formerly Port Elizabeth International) is just 3km from the race venue.

Travellers from outside South Africa will have to transfer from Johannesburg or Cape Town airports onto a domestic flight to Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth).

Hospitals

The City has several world class hospitals and each located within a 8km – 20km radius of the race venue. The closest hospital to race venue is Life St George’s Hospital in Park Drive, Central, and is one of the largest hospitals in the region with 302 beds and 15 theatres.

This hospital is 14min from the race venue (8km).
